How therapy helps with teens & adolescents
Teens face a distinct set of pressures — identity, peers, academics, social media, and a still-developing brain — and mental-health conditions often first appear during these years. Depression in teens can look like irritability and withdrawal rather than obvious sadness; anxiety can show up as avoidance, perfectionism, or physical complaints.
Therapy for adolescents is developmentally tailored. CBT helps teens recognize and reframe unhelpful thinking and face avoided situations; DBT skills — mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation — are especially useful for the intense emotions and impulsivity of adolescence, including self-harm urges. Family involvement is often part of the plan.
Early, effective treatment during the teen years can change the trajectory of a young person's life. When a teen also needs a psychiatric evaluation or medication, Lyte's in-house prescribers (including child & adolescent expertise) can coordinate directly with the therapist and family.

Because psychiatry and therapy sit under one chart, your therapist and any prescriber coordinate directly, so medication and therapy reinforce each other instead of running on separate tracks. We offer same-week appointments, secure telehealth across Texas, and in-person visits at our Pantego clinic in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
